Did you know that there is a reduced risk of obesity for each month that an infant is breastfed?  In fact, there is an association between a history of breastfeeding and a reduction in the risk of being overweight or obese in adolescence and adult life. 

Make Healthy Happen Miami aims to increase breastfeeding practices though education and breastfeeding-friendly facilities.

Child Care Centers

Make Healthy Happen Miami will increase access to healthy foods and beverages, require daily physical activity and limit time watching TV or computer games within child care centers.

Working with the Department of Children and Families (DCF), University of Miami Department of Pediatrics and Consulting Registered Dietitians, policy will be introduced` that creates nutrition standards for childcare centers in Florida.

Farm to School Nutrition

The Miami-Dade County Public School District is implementing a farm-to-school program that creates a relationship between the district and local farmers, leading to fresh produce served in local schools.

Healthy kids have a better opportunity to learn—they miss school less often, have more energy, and an easier time focusing on their studies. Exercise is part of keeping our children healthy and alert.

Miami-Dade County Public Schools have wellness policies with goals for nutrition and physical activity. Make Healthy Happen Miami is making increased physical activity in our schools a priority!
