Together we will increase active transportation and recreation, like walking and biking, through improvements to the physical environment. These changes include increasing the number of bicycle racks and creating a county-wide signage system for bike lanes.
We will make parks and open spaces accessible and available to all residents of Miami-Dade Countymore places for everyone to walk, bike and play.
Open Space and Access to Recreational Facilities
Make Healthy Happen Miami and Miami-Dade County Parks and Recreation will help establish an Open Space Master Plan through the development of Urban Design manuals. This plan will encourage neighborhood changes that increase access to safe places to walk, exercise, socialize, and engage in healthy, active lifestyles, such as:
- Parks and recreation facilities
- Public spaces to eat and shop
- Public transportation
- Safer streets to walk and play
Additionally, our goal is that by 2012, Miami-Dade County will incorporate public spaces for festivals, arts and crafts shows, green markets and other civic activities in the planning and development of libraries, museums, schools, government buildings, transit stations with Transit-Oriented Development and stand-alone stations, and other civic/institutional places.

Bicycle Friendly
Miami is committed to becoming a Bicycle Friendly City by 2012. The advancement of bicycle routes and facilities in the cities of Miami and North Miami will create a full array of accommodations, allowing cycling to be an easy alternative to automobile use for recreational enjoyment. Miami will be a safe place to ride a bicycle, creating a more livable and vibrant city for residents and tourists.
